My prequel to actually moving to Florida was a trip with my friend Rita to Anna Maria Island in 2010. If you have not been there, it is a special place filled with unique houses, good zoning with barely any high rises allowed, friendly people and establishments.

These are a few of the images that greeted us when we arrived there. 😃

ocean wave

This regal Great Egret was standing atop one of the houses near our rental welcoming us to Florida! They are very common in south Florida. I once saw one across the street from my house having a snack on a snake that was wrapped around its bill! I wish I had that picture.

The amazing color and clarity of the water and the sand is breathtaking...! There is something about the glittering sun on the water that renews the spirit.

dowitcher in sand

This Dowitcher (I believe?) is one of many sand birds sharing our beach; more of them than there are people! Just what I like!

red bellied woodpecker

This red-bellied woodpecker was
searching for its insects in the palm tree near us. Aren't they gorgeous?

railroad vine

This is Railroad Vine because of its pink flowers. I thought it was Beach Morning Glory but those are only white flowers with yellow. Who knew!

There is so much I want to share with you. I will keep adding more images and stories as my destinations continue from this beginning in Anna Maria Island.
